December 3rd

The new month started much as the old one parted, with very little to shout about. Teal numbers fluctuate between 400 and 800 with no sign of any Green-winged individuals. The drake Pintail remains on the ramp pool although, no sign of it yesterday 2nd. Twelve or Marsh Harriers on the reserve but no sign of any Hen Harriers this weekend and, the Starling roost is down to about 6000 birds and they no longer seem to roost in the reeds behind ramp pool. They appear to be roosting north of the river in the direction of Upstreet. The Great-white Egret still puts in a daily appearance before jumping the river, and the road, and spending time in the Nethergong area. At least 5 Water Pipits around the Marsh hide area but, not always easy to see plus a couple of pairs of Stonechat, with one pair at Marsh hide and another between metal bridge and Harrison's drove. Highlight today and a first for me was a winter plumaged Black-throated Diver flying south east over me while I was watching Fieldfares in fields south of the path between middle drove and Marsh hide at 9.25 this morning.
Some recent photos from Marsh hide and Feast hide below.
