April 22nd

Highlights of the four day Easter weekend included at least 3 Cuckoo's, our first Little Owl of the year, Reed Warblers to join the many Sedge Warblers, The first 3 Common Terns, Garden Warblers and Greenshank. There was a fall of Common Whitethroats on Saturday with at least a dozen around the Ramp/Paddock area at Grove, a Little-ringed Plover at Feast hide, and a smart drake Wheatear along Middle Drove then later along Harrison's. A few Mediterranean Gulls were moving east over the weekend with a dozen birds in total. On bank holiday Monday the first Hobby was seen as well as an Osprey and the first Common Sandpiper of the year. Lots of Blackcaps and Chiffchaffs around the reserve with several Buzzards overhead, 6 Ruff, 7 Green Sandpipers, a dozen Snipe  bolstered the wader numbers while a male Greenfinch singing (wheezing) near the Grove Ferry Inn was the first noted since New Years Day.
