August 25th
Very warm and sunny at the reserve this morning,7.30am-10-45am,so i did the circuit starting at reed bed hide. There was 1 Grey Heron, 1 Black headed gull, 1 Water Rail, 1 Kingfisher and 1 Green sandpiper. A large flock of Grey lags flew in and i estimated around 196 birds. The juvenile Great crested grebe chick is as large as its parents and still being fed fish by them. On route to the water meadow birds seen were 7 Chiffchaff, 3 male and 2 female/young Blackcap, 1 juvenile Robin ,3 Whitethroat ,5 Blue tit, 1 Great tit, 3 Long tail tit and 1 Little Egret. Nothing of note at harrisons. There was 1 Whinchat near the metal bridge,1 Green woodpecker,1 Great spotted woodpecker, 2 Linnet, 1 Cetti's warbler, 2 Sedge warbler and 1 Sparrow hawk. On the way to marsh hide the Grey lags from the lake flew in and i counted approx 250. There was 1 Wood Sandpiper, 2 Green Sandpiper, 4 Juvenile Lapwing ,2 Stock Dove and 1 Turtle Dove There were approx 30 Goldfinch on the thistles near the farm. .Also seen were 2 common Lizard ( young from last month ) 1 Speckled Wood, 3 Small White and 1 young Grass Snake at the nature trail.
