August 22nd

Hot and sunny at the reserve this morning so did the circuit starting from Stodmarsh There was a Turtle Dove on the telephone wires along Grove road.. At reedbed hide were 1 Green Sandpiper, 1 juvenile Black headed gull, 1 Grey Heron and a few Teal and Mallard. On the lake were 137 Grey Lag Geese, 2 Great crested grebe, 1 Common Tern, 5 juvenile Lesser Black back gull's and the usual Shoveller and Mallard. Along the river near the boat moorings was a Willow Warbler, 1 Chiffchaff, 2 Long Tail tit and 3 Whitethroat. At the river end of Harrisons drove were 1 Bullfinch, 2 Chaffinch,4  Whitethroat, 1 Blackcap, 1 Wren and 3 Great Spotted Woodpecker. Near the metal bridge was 1 Whinchat and a few Marsh Frogs calling. A sluice gate at Marsh hide has been opened and the area is more flooded and has attracted a few waders, there were 2 Snipe, 1 Common Sandpiper, 3 Green Sandpiper, 1 Greenshank, 8 Grey Lag, 6 Stock Dove and 2 Reed Bunting. Butterflies seen were 2 Comma, 1 Speckled Wood d and 13 Small White.
