July 16th

Another weekend with very little to report. Still at least 3 Turtle Doves on site but little in the way of waders, just 2 Green Sandpipers and a few Lapwings. A single Lapwing chick is still surviving at Harrison's and 2 Lapwing chicks still at Marsh hide with one of these taking to the water when a Brown Hare came to the waters edge on Sunday. The highlight of Saturday was a Bittern that flew in at Marsh hide, circled the pool before landing in the small patch of reeds in front of the hide. Out of 7 Marsh Harriers seen on Sunday only one! was a juvenile, just 2 Hobbies seen and 1 Common Tern. The highlight for Sunday was on returning to the Ramp there was a single Pintail and an eclipse drake Garganey among the 31 'moulding' Mallards. The Brown Hare was a very welcome sight as was our first Marbled White butterfly of the year.
