February 12th


Today was WeBS count day so merely just a numbers list to peruse for toady. The 4 Bewick's Swans were still present from the Ramp while the other counts were, 128 Mute Swans, 3 Snipe, 118 Lapwings, 3 Shelducks, 134 Greylag Geese, 284 Teal, 1 Black-tailed Godwit and 4 Marsh Harriers. The numbers of Cormorant in Kent seem to be rising and a staggering  1827 flew out of the reserve this morning putting last month 1137 in the shade. There were 2 Little Egrets, 1 Grey Heron, 61 Mallards, 23 Coot, 28 Gadwall, 1 Pochard, 5 Tufted Duck, 3 Water Pipits, 1 Water Rail, 2 Stock Doves, 10 Moorhens, 1 Black-headed Gull! and, surprisingly, only 1 Cetti's Warbler. Also 1 Sparrowhawk, 12 Goldfinch, 5 Great-crested Grebes, 1 Little Grebe and1 Buzzard. Apart from the 5 Great-crested Grebes, the Black-headed Gull and 20 Mallards the was nothing else on the lake at Stodmarsh today.
