Sue, Dave Bernie and I met at the Paddocks at Grove Ferry on a very damp, misty, drizzly, grey, overcast morning with no sign of any Woodcock here yet again. Moving to the Ramp and right in front of us were 3 Bewick's Swans, 2 adults and 1 juvenile, a surprise considering none had been around all winter. There were 107 Mute Swans leaving the back pools and on the Ramp pool were 280 Lapwing, 900 Teal and 3 Snipe. The 1100+ Cormorants all flew out over us 2 Marsh Harriers were seen and 34 Linnets left the bushes behind us on the Ramp. At Marsh hide we were able to locate 4 Water Pipits and 2 of 3 Stonechats but little else. Back at the Ramp the Bewick's were still present plus 2 adult Common Gulls and in the Paddock upon leaving were 1 Jay and 3 Bullfinches, two of them being males. Chiddy had 2 Woodcock and 3 ringtail Hen Harriers at Stodmarsh but we didn't see any from the Grove end. Sue added Little Grebe and Common Gull to the list on the 3rd and today we added Bewick's, Pheasant, Meadow Pipit and Linnet.
The Bewick's Swans at Grove Ferry today.
