June 19th-22nd
Monday 19th June 7.30 am-9.30am.I did the circuit this morning from the Stodmarsh end and there were 2 Green Sandpipers, 3 Teal and 1 Lapwing at reedbed hide. Not much on the lake but 1 Cuckoo and 1 Marsh Harrier overhead.Near the oxbow was a hen Pheasant with 4 chick's and a Slow worm was catching the sun on the track. After navigating the cattle near the metal bridge i came across a pair of Mute Swan's with 8 recently hatched cygnets and the cob was not going to let me by so i crossed the bridge going into the field and was surrounded by at least 60 Meadow Brown's. At marsh hide were 6 adult and 11 juvenile Grey Lag's, 3 Lapwing, 1 Snipe and 1 Brown Hare. Tuesday 20th the circuit again 7am - 9.30 am,and seen today were 3 Cuckoo, 1 Swallow, 1 Kestrel, 1 Chiffchaff, a pair of Linnet's, 2 Corn Bunting,1 adult female and 1 juvenile Great Spotted Woodpecker, 4 Blackheaded gull, 5 Small white, 3 Comma, 4 Red Admiral and 2 Peacock. At marsh hide were 6 juvenile Lapwing and 1 Barn Owl hunting over by the oxbow.Thursday 22nd 6.45 am- 9.45 am ( the circuit ) and 2 Green Sandpiper, 26 Grey lag and 2 Lapwing at reedbed hide, 4 Greenfinch and 1 Bee-eater near the marsh hide. The hen Pheasant and 4 chicks were in the same place as monday allowing me to get within 2 feet of them and the Barn Owl was again hunting near the oxbow. No Hobby or Marsh Harrier's which is strange.
