Arriving to a -4 frozen Stodmarsh this morning with frozen lakes and dykes a Tawny Owl was very vocal near the car park. Out on the Lampen Wall waiting for the Harrier roost a Barn Owl flashed past and at 07:15 a ringtail Hen Harrier took flight and headed towards Seaton. The first of 19 Marsh harriers left roost at 07:21 and at 07:25 4 Hen Harriers arose together and headed off in the direction of Seaton, two were males. On the lake, which did have a small open space in the ice, there were 3 Great Black-backed Gulls, 380 Mallards, 1 Common Gull, 389 Teal, 32 Shoveler, 2 Tufted Ducks, 1 Wigeon, 6 Gadwall and on the icy fringes, 9 Lapwings. Only 2 Cetti's Warblers heard today and no sign of the 3 Bewick's Swans at Grove or the Cattle Egret in its usual field. Three Water Rails were seen, a Buzzard was atop a bush near Marsh hide, 14 Water Pipits were in front or near Marsh hide and 28 Mute Swans flew out. There were 9+ Bearded Tits on the bend before Marsh hide, 2 Little Owls around Undertrees Farm, 2 Stonechats, a male Bullfinch and a Curlew flew west upriver.
